What Jenny's Reading

{August 23, 2014}   Swatch Saturday: OPI Nordic Collection

Hi everyone!  Hope you have a fun weekend planned!  Me, I’ll probably just be doing chores.  I’ve been re-reading the Little House on the Prairie series.  I found the books my mom had as a kid while going through some boxes.  We’re going to give them to my nieces, but for the moment they’re hanging in my room.  I read that they’re going to publish a “new” autobiography of Laura Ingalls Wilder, and that this one is supposed to be an adult read, rather than a kid’s book.  And you know what that means…prairie porn!  Oh yeah – bow chicka wow wow!!

Okay, probably not.

Anyway, as promised, I have seven of the OPI Nordic collection for you today.

August is just the fucking worst.  Besides February, it’s the worst month of the year, in my opinion.  I’m in Florida, and August is always the stormy, humid, yucky summer month.  It’s also when school starts, and even though I’m not in school anymore, I still have those summer’s ending feelings.  And, in my old house, August would be the month that I would find gross, giant roachs in the bathroom.  Knock on wood, I haven’t that problem in the new house!  But there are lots of reasons to dislike August.  All the more reason to try and hurry fall coming, right?  I heard Starbucks is bringing back pumpkin spice a bit early this year, which is kind of exciting.  Well, exciting in that I’m always excited to get a pumpkin spice latte, and then after drinking it I’m like, “OK, I’m good.”  Teavana makes some pumpkin brulee tea that I bought last year, and I’m excited to pull that out.  Also I’m going to stock up on canned pumpkin – yep, I’m that girl, the one who makes pumpkin EVERYTHING from September to November.  Bread, soup, pie, cookies, you name it.  I tried pumpkin and feta risotto once, and it sadly didn’t turn out well.  But I’m going to give it another shot, but maybe with a different cheese.

Okay, enough rambling!  On to the swatches!

The formula was great on them all, and these are all three coats:

Can't aFjord Not To

Can’t aFjord Not To.  This is a great orange creme that’s sort of pumpkiny.  It’s not super bright, and it’ll be great for fall!

My Dogsled is a Hybrid

My Dogsled is a Hybrid.  A minty green creme that sort of reminds me a Mermaid’s Tears from a few years ago.  But this one has the benefit of (1) not being as dusty-colored as Mermaid’s Tears; and (2) not staining my fingernails.  Woo!  It’s an unexpected shade for fall, and I really like it.

Thank Glogg it's Friday!

Thank Glogg it’s Friday!  This is a sort of berry-colored shimmer, pretty and deep for the fall.  It’s red enough that the pinkish tones don’t bother me.

Do You Have This Color in Stock-Holm

Do You Have This Color in Stock-Holm?  A vibrant blurple.  To be honest, this one sort of disappointed me.  It’s nice, but the shade in pictures makes it look “blurplier” than it actually is.  On my nails in person, it’s pretty purple.  It’s a pretty color, but I would’ve liked it to be more blurple.

Skating on Thin Ice-Land

Skating on Thin Ice-Land.  Now we’re talkin’!  This is a jellyish wine-colored purple.  My favorite of the collection!  It’s like a fall version of Push & Pur-Pull, so if you liked that one I’d definitely recommend picking this one up!

Viking in a Vinter Vonderland

Viking in a Vinter Vonderland.  A deep vampy purple that wins the name contest pretty much forever.  What’s nice about this one is that, while it’s pretty dark, it never looks black to me.  You can tell it’s actually purple.

My Voice is a Little Norse - 1 over ViaVV

My Voice is a Little Norse.  This is a holo glitter topper with a slightly grey base.  I’m showing just one coat here (over Viking in a Vinter Vonderland), so it wouldn’t be crazy to assume you could probably get this one opaque on its own.  To me, it sort of looks like scattered Christmas lights.

And there you have it!  The rest of the collection is mostly browns, and you know how I feel about brown.  There’s also a pink that I considered getting, but decided I wouldn’t wear it enough to justify the purchase (yes, I do think about these things sometime!).  I admit, when I saw pictures at first, I was a little disappointed there wasn’t a great red.  But these purples are pretty amazing, and I don’t really miss a great vampy red among them.  My favorites are Skating on Thin Ice-Land, Viking in a Vinter Vonderland, and My Voice is a Little Norse.

So there you have it!  Have you picked up any of the Nordic collection yet?  Which one’s your favorite?

Happy weekend!
