What Jenny's Reading

Hi everyone!  I have a #tbt today of a “gold leaf” mani I did for Midsummer a couple of years ago:

Orly Haute Red, OPI Goldeneye gold leafing

This is Orly Haute Red and OPI Goldeneye.  I can’t remember what I was actually trying to do with Goldeneye, but I was sponging it on my nails and I noticed that it started doing this thing like gold leafing as I went.  Another pic:

It was a big surprise, since if you paint on Goldeneye it’s a very shimmery and almost sheer gold.  I used it on the recreated apple mani a few weeks ago, but that took a LOT to get it to go opaque.  Here’s a picture I took of my little workstation, showing what the Goldeneye did after sponging:

Kinda cool.  All pics are clickable, but they’re probably pretty large.  Happy Thursday!

Hi everyone!  It’s been really hot this summer, hasn’t it????  At least, it has been where I am!  I spent the day at the beach, huddled under a large patch of shade.  My nieces did manage to get me into the water quite a bit, so hopefully I won’t burn – I feel like I was applying sunscreen every half hour!

Today I have an apple mani I did back in June of 2013.  I think I did a pretty good job!

OPI No Bees Please, OPI KennebuckPort, OPI Green-wich Village 1st apple mani #1 - 6-15-13

This is OPI No Bees Please, OPI Kennebuck-Port, and OPI Greenwich Village.  The shine was probably done with China Glaze White on White; I don’t think I had any stripers back then.

Gosh, look how nice and long my nails used to be!  The cuticles look pretty good too.  Clearly I’ve been slacking on care!

I really like this design.  Maybe I’ll try and re-create it in the next few days.

Happy early weekend!

Hi everyone!  I’m posting this today because tomorrow is going to be busy and I don’t want to forget!

This is another “throwback” nail post.  This one is from July 1, 2013, so it’s exactly two years old.  It’s the first (and only) water marble I ever did, and as it’s Fourth-themed, I thought it would be perfect for this week’s throwback!

CG White on White, Sally Hansen Blue My Mind, Orly Haute Red, Orly Liquid Vinyl, Zoya Electra

The marbling was done with China Glaze White on White, Sally Hansen Blue My Mind, and Orly Haute Red.  The middle finger is Orly Liquid Vinyl with an overlay of Zoya Electra.  I screwed up that nail’s marbling and couldn’t get it right, so I thought the Electra at least looked a bit like fireworks and it would fit the theme.  Another:

It looks like the same picture, but I swear it’s not.  I think my favorite of the marbles was my ring finger.  I couldn’t get patterns so it’s sort of blobby, but you can at least see the three different colors properly.  Final pic:

You can sort of see my thumb here.  I should’ve taken a better picture of it; I think it must’ve come out pretty well too.

Happy Fourth to my American friends!  I should have some Fourth-themed swatches this weekend too.

Okay, so since I can’t do the Shakespeare review, I thought I’d do a Throwback Thursday nail art. 🙂

I started getting into nail polish and nail art hardcore about two years ago.  I took tons and tons of pictures of manicures I tried, and then promptly forgot they existed.  Ha!  I came across them recently and thought it might be fun to post a couple.  So today I’m posting what was probably my favorite manicure I ever did.  I based it off of a pair of socks.

OPI Skull & Glossbones, Orly Glowstick, CG Pool Party, OPI Secret Peri-Wink-Le, OPI Servin Up Sparkle 6-16-13

The dates on these pictures are June 2013, so they’re almost two years old.  This is a neon leopard print.  The base is OPI Skull & Glossbones, and the spots were done with Orly Glowstick, China Glaze Secret Peri-Wink-Le, and China Glaze Pool Party.  The sparkles are OPI Servin’ Up Sparkle.  I sponged that on just for fun.

Another shot:

These pictures are older, but I think they’re pretty good.  I took them with my old iPhone.  I changed to Android about a year and a half ago because Apple pissed me off, but I have to admit, the iPhone camera is pretty nice.

Shot with the socks.  You thought I was joking, right?

All the pictures are clickable if you want a better look, but I do think they’re pretty big.

I have TONS of these, so maybe I’ll start posting more of them in the future.
